Rotary International President Gordon McInally Takes the Helm
At this year's Rotary International Convention in Melbourne, Australia, RI President Gordon McInally outlined his agenda for the year ahead.
Most notable? This year's theme: Create Hope in the World.
President Gordon shared his Scottish heritage by donning a kilt to launch what's sure to be an exciting Rotary year!
President Gordon's Goals for 2023-24
President Gordon highlighted goals for the year in a speech at the RI Convention. They include:
Prioritizing Mental Health Encourage clubs & districts to create space where it's safe to discuss mental health issues through erasing any stigma, raising awareness, and improving access to mental health services.
Building peace through virtual exchanges Incorporate virtual components to help clubs and districts forge connections throughout the world and build intercultural understanding which will foster peace.
Empowering girls Continue Rotary's efforts to elevate the voices and unlock the power of girls and women around the world.
President Gordon is especially committed to helping Rotarians prioritize mental health. His own family was deeply affected by the suicide of his brother in 2014 who was suffering from deep depression, but kept it hidden from those around him. President Gordon believes it's important to tell others of this experience because mental health issues can touch anyone, and we need to be aware of how mental health issues may be affecting those closest to us.
In addition to his official duties, President Gordon enjoys sharing his Scottish heritage. He's a fan of haggis, the literary works of Robert Burns and Sir Walter Scott, and rugby, especially the Kelso Rugby Football Club. When not traveling the world as RI President, President Gordon enjoys life with his wife, Heather, in Scottish Borders, a village of 500 people.
