With thanks to Peter Webb for organizing, the first meeting of the Club Book Club (would that be the CBC?) met at Peter's house for a great discussion & a yummy dessert. Next up? Talking to Strangers by Malcolm Gladwell. November 2, 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.
Barbara Evers planned a great Oktoberfest celebration for one & all, including mugs of beer to help Rotarians get in the spirit! Looks as though President Dick & his intrepid Sergeants-at-Arms Chris & Ross had a most enjoyable time! Wonder where they got those hats...not to mention the lederhosen!
It truly takes a village! Thanks to Past President Bruce for filling in for President Dick, and to Lisa Diaz-Nash & Rod Linhares for their service on the San Mateo Library Board! They hosted City Librarian James Moore and invited him to be our speaker on September 22nd.
Kitty Lopez presented an informative & engaging overview of the work of First Five San Mateo whose focus is serving the needs of children & their families from 0-5. President Dick lauded Kitty's designation as Assembly District 22 Woman of the Year!
Past President Sue offered congrats to Steve McDonald as he steps down from managing
Rotary Haciendas & Floritas. Steve has capably managed both facilities since 2010 and is now exploring new life adventures. John DeRussy, a member of the Haciendas Board, joined in the moment.
On behalf of the Rotarians who took Walt up on his offer for a ride on an aircraft carrier, Tom Thompson presented Walt with an Admiral's Cap - complete with scrambled eggs!
Peggy Jensen spoke on San Mateo services for the unhoused. Did you know that 80% of our county's homeless used to be housed right here in San Mateo County?
