SPINNINGS

WEEK OF OCTOBER 1, 2024

San Mateo Rotarians thoroughly enjoyed a demonstration between two of the top players from 888 Table Tennis Center, a new 30,000 square foot facility in Burlingame.  Director of Marketing & Events Angela Batinovich gave an introduction to 888 and noted there are opportunities for all levels of table tennis players to play & improve their games.  The Center was recently designated as an official USA Olympics Training Facility.  Judging from the skilled play by the two players involved in the demonstration, the USA Olympic Table Tennis Team should be ready for Los Angeles!  Reserve those tickets before they're snapped up!

THE FUN RUN IS COMING!

help save the california central coast steelhead

The Rotary Club of San Mateo has partnered with our counterparts in Half Moon Bay and Pacifica to apply for a District 5150 Environmental Grant to clean up San Pedro and Pilarcitos Creeks so the California Central Coast Steelhead can migrate up & downstream without being blocked by discarded furniture and other trash that has been thrown into the creeks.   We will be working together with SeaHugger, a Half Moon Bay nonprofit whose mission is protecting and healing the marine environment.

The great news arrived this week that we received the grant so plans are underway for scheduling work days to clean the creeks.  One interesting product of the clean up will be to salvage items from the creeks so a local artist can create a "found art" sculpture at Pilar Point Harbor.  Stay tuned for more details!
