Rotary Club of San Mateo - Spinnings for Week of 4/16/24

3 Cheers for this threesome who won the first-ever Rotary Club of San Mateo Cookie Contest with three delectable cookie recipes.

Cheryl Angeles took 1st Place with her Peanut Butter Clouds, Jodie De Smidt was the 2nd Place winner with Chocolate Chippers and Sue Winks came in 3rd with Glazed Lemon Cookies.  Past Club Presidents had the difficult & taxing job of judging the entries, taking their duties very seriously.  They quickly got out of the way when President John let the rest of the Club loose to head to the Cookie Table.   Not a crumb was left behind!

Angel Saunders was the day's Newscaster and shared all sorts of fun cookie trivia. Did you know:

  • Americans consume 2 billion cookies every year
  • Santa downs 336 million cookies on his Christmas Eve journey
  • Nabisco sells 550 million Oreos every year
  • Cookie Monster has never eaten a cookie (Who knew?)
Let's hope the Cookie Contest becomes a yearly tradition!

With thanks to Karen Vandenberg & the Membership Committee who organized the event to encourage us all to bring new members to the Club.

Bernie told everyone to be on the lookout this Tuesday when the Daily Journal
will publish a special insert featuring our Club Centennial
so be sure to pick up several copies to save for posterity. Thanks to Bernie and the Centennial Committee for all their hard work in creating the insert, selling the ads, and locating pictures. Thanks also to those who purchased ads which made the insert possible.
With thanks to Karen & the Member-
ship Committee who organized the Cookie Contest to encourage us all to bring more new members to the Club.  If you know anyone who would be a great addition to our Club, be sure to invite them to lunch one day & let Karen know of any potential new members.
The secret is out! Serra High School announced this past week that the Arch-bishop of San Francisco appointed a new President. Who might that be? Our very own Mike Fadelli! Mike graduated from Serra in 1988 and most recently has served as Serra's Chief Advance-
ment Officer. He begins his new duties on July 1st.
