Kudos to the Fun Run Committee, ably chaired by Peter Webb and BruceBean, for all their hard work on this year's Fun Run! 350+ participants is the most we've ever had and our sponsors really came through on the donation front. Thanks to one & all!
This year's overall 10K winner was Anthony Hsiao (pictured above). Anthony led wire to wire, finishing with a stellar time of 35:25 which means he was running a 5:42 mile pace. An impressive win and a full 29 seconds ahead of 2nd place finisher Nick Kovaleski! First place in the Women's 10K went to Jacquie Cooke who finished with a time of 38:18.
What's a Fun Run without Goodie Bags? Thanks to Kaiser for donating the lime green bags (this year's high fashion color!). The crew pictured above had a great time filling the bags with goodies! Thanks also to Bill Kenney for donating a unit at All American Storage to provide vital space for storing everything!
The Goodie Bags make their debut on Sunday morning. Angel Saunders & Claudia Ferguson
arranged the display and made sure the bags were ready for the race participants when they arrived at Seal Point Park. Thanks to Peter Webb for continuing to secure donated items for the Goodie Bags. This year's bags were a true potpourri, including all types of skin care products, dental care necessities, pens galore, and stress relief balls.
Scott Smith came dressed as a Minion and greeted the early morning sunshine with a smile. Can you guess who the fellow in orange is? None other than our President-Elect Skip Howie! Scott & Skip helped with race set-up. Then Scott joined his friends and family, also togged out as Minions, and headed to the Starting Line to run the race. They took off in a yellow blur as they crossed the starting line. Thanks to both Scott and Skip for their help on Race Day! Same time & place next year?
President Joan & Fun Run Co-Chair Bruce were quite excited to see Race Day was finally here. Those are broad smiles at 7:00 am on a Sunday morning! Note President Joan's head gear! You can catch the names of several of our sponsors on the banner in the background.
Steve Parker and Mike Peterson chill out at Race Headquarters. A good place to be - lots of doughnuts, coffee, & energy bars! Many thanks to Steve for the Rotary Booth at the Fun Run & Car Show and to Mike for the doughnuts!
Always a highlight of the day, this year's Kids Race was a hotly contested 30-second race to the finish! These two gave it their all & were pleased with their medals at the Finish Line.
With thanks to our Water Crew for all they did to set up the Hydration
Station and hand out prepared cups of water to the runners. It was a warm morning & runners appreciated the hydration opportunity. This year's Water Crew did an awesome job! They attend SanMateo High School.Go Bearcats and thanks for your help!
Anthony Hsaio crosses the Finish Line as the Overall Winner and looks as though he could easily run another 10K! Anthony attends San Mateo High and is a member of the school's Cross Country Team.
Hats off to Peter Webb and Bruce Bean. As our intrepid Fun Run CoChairs they spend much of September and October working on the Fun Run to be sure all bases are covered. (Hmmm, guess that may be mixing metaphors but it is World Series Week!) Next time you see Bruce & Peter, be sure to thank them for all they did to make sure this year's Fun Run was such a rousing success!
Remember this week's meeting will be at the San Mateo Elks Lodge at 229 West 20th Ave. in San Mateo. Drive into the main parking lot & continue to the right to the side parking lot. There is a door in the building from the side parking lot that leads directly into where we'll have lunch! See you there!
