The rafters of the Coyote Point Yacht Club echoed with the exuberant laughter of San Mateo Rotarians on June 26th as they honored President Joan for her outstanding leadership during the 24-25 Rotary Year. President Joan listened with rapt attention throughout her Debunking and then graciously thanked the Club for all its support during the year.
Past President Kitty Lopez gave an Academy Award performance as she assumed the persona of Teacher Joan, in keeping with President Joan's long & distinguished career in education. Dispensing candy galore, Kitty managed to keep a sometimes unruly classroom crew in check. Luckily, she had Nick Rogers as her star pupil!
President Joan proudly displays several mementos from the Debunking. She remained an eminently good sport throughout the entire event, laughing & clapping as Kitty and the Rotary Players captured highlights from the past Rotary year.
Past President Rod Linhares donned a HazMat mask and suit to present President Joan with a battered Red Rotary Badge (ostensibly retrieved from Par 3). Rod revealed his great skill as an impresario - writing, directing, and narrating the script which managed to shine a spotlight on many of the key events of President Joan's presidency. Perhaps Rod is now our
Debunker-in-Residence?
President Joan valiantly attempted to raise a final donation to her President's Club by cajoling Almost-President Skip to making a gift in exchange for the masterpiece she created at Art Night earlier in the week. Skip eventually agreed to donate $100 and walked away with a new painting.
Cheryl Angeles, dressed in western attire in President Joan's honor, appeared with a box full of objects from many of the club activities over the past year. There are Centennial Paperweights still left over, even though President Joan has given them out as speaker gifts all year long! Cheryl offered them for free, but had no takers!
Teacher Joan (aka Kitty) confronted "Bad Boy" Martin, who was sporting a backwards baseball cap. Quite the fashion statement! Kitty tried to convince him to join the President's Club. Martin drove a tough bargain and managed instead to get Teacher Joan to join the President's Club on his behalf. She even gave him candy to thank him for his generosity!

Imagine 8 high-strung horses galloping through the Coyote Point Yacht Club! They made not one, but two appearances to celebrate President Joan. Kudos to Juliana Fuerbringer who organized & managed to wrangle the stampede with great good humor!
President Joan looks on in disbelief at the antics of the Rotarians performing in her honor. It looks as though she might even be enjoying the production! The performers certainly did!
Almost-President Skip is definitely feeling his oats as he presents Almost-Past -President Joan with...a trophy of half a horse. Guess which end?
Joan accepted the gift with a quizzical look, but appreciated Skip's erudite explanation...and attire! Wonder where she'll put this new possession?
As HazMat Rod prepared to escort Past President Joan outside to the waiting U-Haul for a ride home, in came Omar & Julianna from Par 3 days carrying a festively decorated cake in honor of Joan who was pleased to see them & even more pleased she didn't have to get in the U-Haul! She enjoyed cake instead!
Joan looks quite happy to be joining the Past Presidents' Club after a spectacular and fun-filled year. Skip looks ready to embark upon a year of new adventures as our Club President! From now on, it's President Skip!
