The Centennial Committee is busily planning many festivities & activities for our Club's centennial! Past president Tony recently gave an informative Newscast about our club's history. Interesting tidbits included:
Our club was chartered by Rotary International on January 25, 1924, as Rotary Club #408. Be sure to plan to attend the January 23, 2024, meeting where we'll officially commemorate our centennial! Rumor has it there will be champagne! Yes, for lunch!
Among the original club members back in 1924 were the owner of a San Francisco chocolate company, the President of Mills Memorial Hospital, a PG&E Manager, leaders of the local high school and community college districts, a dairy delivery company manager, a mortuary owner, a hardware store owner, and a newspaper publisher. As Tony observed, "That diversity of our Club's initial membership still exists today."
Also on 1/24/1924 another significant event occurred - the first Winter Olympics opened in Chamonix, France.
The Centennial Committee meets once a month with Mitch Postel at the helm. All are welcome to attend as we continue planning centennial activities. Next meeting will be at Poplar Creek at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 19th. Hope to see you there!

Tony shared the research he's done in finding the best possible venue for our Gala Centennial Dinner on May 15th. Thanks to those of you who filled out Tony's recent survey. Save the date! RI President Gordon R. McInally will be joining us!
To mark a century of service, we'll be locating 24 Little Libraries all over San Mateo in 2024. President-Elect Joan and Past President Sheila recently built a prototype. Stay tuned for how you can help!
Like Mother, Like Son! Susan Manheimer is pictured assisting her son at a food drive sponsored by the Alexandria Central Rotary Club. He even created the sign they're holding! Susan enthusiastically joined President John's President's Club as a very proud parent! Perhaps there are more proud parents out there ready to join the President's Club?
