WHAT FUN TO RUN!!!

As a waxing crescent moon looked down upon Seal Park, San Mateo Rotarians greeted the sunrise with enthusiasm as they prepared the race venue for this year's Fun Run. Under the stellar leadership of Bruce Bean, all was ready when the first runners arrived at the registration table at 8:02 a.m. Rotarians greeted them with sign-in sheets, goodie bags, shirts, donuts, and a smile!

Many thanks to the Rotarians who were on hand to help - the race wouldn't have happened without your assistance!  A special shout out to Bruce Bean who served as this year's intrepid Fun Run Chair, devoting months to gathering supporters, publicizing the event, and rallying Rotarians to volunteer.  Thanks to Bruce's hard work and the efforts of many Rotarians and community sponsors, the Fun Run provided runners, walkers & spectators with a great way to enjoy a glorious Sunday morning!

The Fun Run is one of the key fund-raising events for our scholarship program.   The amount raised by this year's Fun Run is still being tabulated, but it will be an important part of our available scholarship funding.  Thanks for your support!

Be sure to mark your calendars for next year's Fun Run - coming up on October 22, 2023!!!
What's a Fun Run without Goodie Bags?
Many thanks to all who helped prepare the bags which were full of lots of surprises - including abundant chocolate!

The young man on the left is Luke, a SMART Scholar who goes to Aragon. He saw the Fun Run advertised & volunteered as a way of giving back to our club!
Past Presidents Sue & Sheila, Pete, Dave, and Bill are ready! But where are the runners? Kudos to Bill Walters for all the logistics involved in securing this year's Fun Run souvenir shirt. Also to Dave Skromme for the terrific sign that makes the perfect backdrop for the registration table!

Bruce got into the Halloween spirit!  He had the perfect head gear for the man in charge of everything! Just the right note of gusto, glamour, and good humor! Bruce's favorite moment of the day? Trying to organize the Kids' Run & explain the rules to kids who were definitely ready to run!
And they're off!  Serious 10k runners took off at a blazing pace, followed by those running the 5K at more moderate speed as well as those choosing to walk.   Several in strollers & a wheel chair also rolled the course with great aplomb!
These two were competitive right up to the end of the race. Judging by their facial expressions, one really wanted to finish first while the other was having a great time & pleased to be just inches away from the finish line!
The Kids' Race is always a highlight of the morning. This year's crew really wanted to run & finished in record time. They each received a medal & were so excited they probably slept with their new treasure under the pillow on Sunday evening!
Peter Webb gave out prizes to race & raffle winners. Peter also helped gather goodie bag items, laid out the race course & included his family in race day festivities! The epitome of Service Above Self!
How would you like to wear this costume for a 10 K race, be one of the top finishers, and win a bottle of wine for celebrating on Sunday at Happy Hour?  Bet this competitor will be back next year!
President Dick and Pete had front row seats for the awards ceremony! Looks as though they're thoroughly enjoying basking in Sunday's sunbeams!   Definitely a glorious day for a Fun Run!
