In case you haven't heard, Laura Bent is the new Executive Director at Samaritan House!!! In honor of Laura's new role (at which she'll be fantastic!), Chief Susan Manheimer offered to join the President's Club. President Dick accepted Susan's generous offer and then was greeted by a stampede of Rotarians who wanted to join the President's Club, too, in honor of Laura. Many thanks to Susan, Heather, Nick, Ross, Mitch Williams, Bernie, and Joan! As a fitting finale, President Dick joined his own President's Club!

Dennis Murphy was the featured New Member at our January 26th meeting. He was a Fraternity Pledge Brother with Nick Rogers - must have been a fun fraternity!
Dennis has worked in ticket sales for the Oakland A's and the Denver Broncos, but is now in real estate.
His daughters play LaCrosse for Hillsdale & his wife teaches English & Journalism at Burlingame High School.
Dennis is organizing a Rotary Night at the Giants on April 10 for the Dodgers game at 6:45 p.m. $14 of every ticket will be donated to the San Mateo Rotary Foundation. Let Dennis know if you'd like to attend & he'll get you the details.
New Member Juliana Fuerbringer grew up on the East Coast, but after driving cross-country in her VW Beetle 48 years ago, she never looked back & decided the West Coast was the place to be!
Juliana discussed her commitment to mental health services, having been inspired to found the California Clubhouse by her son's mental health struggles.
She also shared news of a new partnership between Rotary and Clubhouse International.
President Dick updated us on current negotiations with Par 3 regarding their intent to "bump" us on eight Thursdays a year. They can rent the space to other clients at a higher rate which helps the bottom line. The price of lunch has also gone up and is now $35.
The first "bump" will be this coming Thursday when we will meet at Poplar Creek for breakfast ($28) at 7:30 a.m. instead of at noon for lunch.
One option is moving from Thursdays to Tuesdays for lunch without the threat of bumping. A show of hands indicated many Rotarians favored this option. The Board will decide next steps at its February meeting so let board members know your thoughts!

The Program Committee would welcome some additional members and meets two Friday mornings a month at 7:30 a.m. It's a great group and could use your help as it continues to locate great speakers for our weekly meetings.
