The Season of Giving
To highlight December's theme of "The Season of Giving," President Dick invited President-Elect John to the podium to share the story of The Cambodia Academy.  In 2004 PE John was instrumental in helping found The Cambodia Academy, together with Past President Hans Eide and fellow Rotarian Gary Hunt.  PE John noted the founders shared a common vision - "Education helps create a better world." The school began in a rented building, but now has its own building for 330 students with 10 classrooms, a cafeteria, and living quarters for the teachers.  All San Mateo Rotarians are encouraged to join PE John in 2023 as he journeys to Cambodia to visit the school. Rotary Round Tables
With thanks to Dave Bennett for organizing a great Rotary Roundtable! When last Thursday's speaker had to cancel, Dave & President Dick speedily went to work and created a wonderful opportunity for Rotarians to get to know one another better.  This friendly group obviously enjoyed each other's company and shared the following information about themselves:
 
     Claudia - Together with friends from Germany, bakes 3,000 holiday cookies every year
     Past President Sue - When she's not reading, she's cooking.  When she's not cooking, she's reading
     Jennifer - A visitor to our club who is a Fire
Inspector for San Mateo Consolidated Fire Dept.
     Past President Tony - Ran with the bulls in Pamplona
     Rosemary - Has traveled all over the world
     President-Elect John - A Serra Alum who was an Olympic hopeful in Rowing, practices Martial Arts, and has made 30 parachute jumps
     Past President Anne - Had to take a boat every day to Kindergarten in Newfoundland

Holiday party ON THE HORIZON
The San Mateo Rotary Annual Holiday Party is rapidly approaching.  We hope all Rotarians will join in the fun mid-day on Thursday, December 15, at Poplar Creek.   Menu choices include risotto, chicken, or salmon.  Paul Rogerville has again generously donated wine for the event, accompanied by a selection of enticing appetizers! Be sure to sign up at the Registration Table on Thursday or email Rosemary Azem at shorestrvl@aol.com that you'll be attending and let her know your menu choice.  Cost is $50 per person.  Family and friends are also invited!
