San Mateo Rotarians listened with interest (and possibly alarm) as James Wiggins provided an overview of the threats facing the world as 2025 begins.
As he began his presentation, Wiggins emphasized the views expressed in his remarks did not represent any official position, but are his opinions based on analysis of the current world order.
James noted the beginning of the end of the post-World War II era is upon us. For the past 80 years the United States and its allies have provided great stability to global order. That era is now waning and the world is entering a period of instability, with the highest number of countries involved in conflict since the end of World War II.
Wiggins sees the main threats as:
State Actors: Russia, China, North Korea
Conflict Zones: Europe, Middle East, Non-State Actors
Cyber: An Enduring and Expanding Threat
Following his prepared remarks, Wiggins led a spirited Question & Answer session which could have gone on well past the 1:30 meeting ending. He graciously stayed after the meeting to converse and answer additional questions.
